Scotland
When we think of Scotland we often think of, Scotland home of the brave as in William Wallace, Robert the Bruce and Rob Roy. As wonderful as they were we really need to think outside the box as there is so much more to Scotland. We can help you and hope that you will find a few ideas here.
For example, as inspirational as those men were Scotland has a long history of influential and eminent men and women. Scotland gave the world artists, architects, mathematicians, great writers and poets, musicians, engineers, industrial revolutionaries such as Andrew Carnegie and more.
You might find it very fascinating to travel around Scotland with a goal to either see one of the many engineering feats or getting a personal view by visiting the home or estate of one or more of these distinguished individuals. As busy engineers you don’t have time to put together an adventure that provides the details, interest, fun, and inspiration for ourselves or families. Its a balancing act that we can work out for you. Think of the educational and inspirational moments you can provide for yourself, children or grandchildren by going on a Scotland adventure. Here are a few famous engineers that you might want to explore while in Scotland. These engineers and scientist were either born in Scotland or went to one of the world famous Universities in Scotland, Dr. James Watts, William Thomson Lord Kelvin 1824-1907 (Glasgow University), Thomas Telford 1757-1834, Robert Stevenson, Alexander Graham Bell, Alan Stevenson, David Stevenson, Robert Mylne, Alexander Mackenzie, James Alfred Ewing, John Muir, and William Playfair to name a few. A few sites of engineering significance are the Caledonian Canal, a Thomas Telford design, perhaps visit one of the homes were they lived or a quick visit over to one of the Universities, Glasgow or Edinburgh. Of course the Kevlingrove Museum and Edinburgh Museum have information pertaining to these famous engineers and scientists.
